Intermittent blanking issues with Vista

I have a Chimei CMV 221D 22" LCD. I have noticed recently that frequently my screen will blank out during the boot process. When I am booting Vista, everything is usually fine through at least the initial booting screen (the usual scrolling bar page like most recent Windows have), but at some point after that, it will go black, and nothing works. It would appear that the operating system has completely booted by all indications, but I just have no video. The buttons on the monitor do not bring up the OSD. This may also present a problem when exiting power-saving modes, but currently I've turned those off, in order to avoid problems.

My video card is an ATI x1300 Pro, and this problem seemed to go away today when I switched from the DVI connection to the VGA connection, but this is not what I prefer to do by any means, especially if: a) it can be easily fixed; or b) there is something wrong with my monitor or its DVI connection that requires returning the monitor.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be much obliged. Currently, Vista is the only OS I have running on this machine, so I cannot test anything else quickly and easily (unless I were to run a Linux LiveCD of some sort) Thanks in advance.

if i had to guess i would say its changing resolution and your screen can change resolutions faster via one output over another. Autofit may occur while the screen is black and that could be a factor.

Hope this helps~

Thank you for the theory. However, perhaps I gave the impression that the blackouts were short-lived. That is not the case. Rather, once the screen has been black for a few seconds, I can be confident that it will stay that way until I reboot. And then it is pretty likely to repeat the trick.

Well there's your problem right there. You're using Vista and there's no doubt the driver for the DVI connection isn't recognizing it properly. Are you sure ATI have the latest driver for your videocard for Vista?? I bet you using a vga connection, your problem might go away but that's isn't a proper solution. It's just my hunch that ATI usually have problem with DVI connection if you don't have a proper driver install for operating system Vista.

I have no clue where to find a driver for this monitor. The Chimei site isn't too helpful. Any thoughts?

To more accurately answer the question asked, I do have the latest ATI driver installed. And I am still running the VGA connection, but I'm not too happy about that. :(
