So I am starting to 'push' my system. The arctic silver has been broken in and its time to turn this thing up.

I have a Asus p5q-e mobo and an Intel Q9550 quad

When I leave all setting stock the vcore

at idle is 1.184-1.192v
at load is 1.168v

When I OC to 3.5 (412fsb) and manually set the vcore to 1.25v

at idle is 1.224v
at load is 1.24v

Why is the vdroop actually happening when voltage is set to stock (auto) and the opposite of vdroop happens when I manually set the vcore to 1.25v....the voltage actually goes up at load??? I thought the opposite was supposed to happen and that was the issue with vdroop. Whats goin on here?

Thanks

could just be the board.. but its not really that big of a deal.. when you want to worry is when it starts going higher then what you have it set at or if the voltage drops way lower then what you have it set at..

its 4 in the morning so i cant totally think straight right now.. but i think your board might be turning the voltage offset (cant remember what else its called on intel boards) thats suppose to balance out the voltages so theres no vdroop.. ya might want to look and see if thats on or something..

Ya there is a setting on there that messes with the vdroop, and it is on.

And ya I was messing around with the FSB with the CPU voltage on auto, it cranked it up into the 1.3's with a mild overclock, guess they are right when they say that setting overestimates, by a LOT. Running stable now (still running p95 to make sure) at 3.5Ghz @ 1.25v (actual load voltage of 1.24v). Wondering if I can knock it down further but my hottest core is only 56C right now :).

worth a shot to drop the voltage.. if you know its stable at that voltage.. then you already know what to fall back on if it doesnt run stable at a lower voltage..

Moved down to 1.225v, 1.2 was unstable but so far so good with 1.225, slightly lower temps also :)

Any ideas why my CPU temp was 74C but my hottest core was only 57C after 4 hrs of running P95? (this was with vcore set to 1.25v, running p95 again with the new settings as we speak)
