It seems we've had the wrong answer about this the whole time: Windows 7/8 does defragment your SSD, but it does so intelligently.

I think the most disappointing thing about this is how long it took Microsoft to give the community a clear answer on such a simple question

I don't know. My SSD looks pretty fragmented. I ran the Windows optimization and it took about 3 seconds and said it was running TRIM. I analyzed again with the defrag program and it is still the same. I don't see TRIM and defrag as being the same.
