I just bought one of these guys to replace my old 3.0 but I have a slight problem. I'm a big Warcraft player, and I like to have the Alt button bound to the large thumb button (normally assigned to "back" in a browser). This was no problem with the 3.0 and IntelliPoint 4.1 software (which I have). However, the new IntelliPoint which recognizes the 4.0 doesn't allow you to bind the Alt key for some stupid reason, and the old software won't bind keys to the 4.0, even if I try to tell it it's an older version of the mouse. Anyone have any idea (outside utility, registry edit, etc.) how I might be able to work around Microsoft's desire to release updated software with less functionality?
 
I was thinking of getting one of these, but now i don't know. All i can suggest is to use an earlier version of the software or tell it its a 3.0 or lower.
 
Unfortunately, you can't use an earlier version to bind keys to the 4.0, it simply won't let you treat it as a 3.0; as far as I can tell there's no solution to this problem.

And ewww, whats with this wheel? I'm getting used to it, but no resistance and no clicking is rotten! Logitech has it's own side-to-side scrolling now too - But not the same mouse shape.
 
The Logitech MX series mice (500 700) let you assign any keystroke you want to any key. You can't do program specific keystrokes though like the old Microsoft Intellipoint software let you which was great. Why they'd remove features in a new product baffles me...
 
Doesn't it seem like you should be able to do this through the registry somehow?
