Intel Xeon E5-1680 v2 3.0GHz 25MB Cache 8-Core Processor

I've just scooped up a 1680 V2 $600 shipped .

Hoping to hit 4.7Ghz with 1.35+

There's not many people running odd chips like these. Other than Lutjens, and Mr too short and few others,

I've seen 4.95Ghz Ghz first hand . It's no laughing matter what these Dinosaurs can pull off, that new Ryzen architecture is struggling to offer.

I think Lutjens is running a 6950X if I'm not mistaken. I think that's a sign, maybe those 1681,1686,1691 v3's are not unlocked after all..

I mean, could you imagine a 1691 V3 14 core being unlocked? It would probably still pull off 4.2Ghz.

Unfortunately Intel ended the unlocked Xeon e5 1600 fun with V4. After all these years... So many people believed they were locked, maybe Intel thought they were to! Lol

There would be NUCLEAR WAR before a Xeon is UNLOCKED!!! LOL

4.3-4.4 is the best you can do unless you have TEC/Phase for like 20C temps.

It overclocks just like E line. I get 4.4 stable with my 1650. The 8 core may be 100mhz left due to extra cores.

You need water at least for it because i pull 170-220 watts on my 6 core OC. I have the 360mm EK predator. The H100i GTX or whatever ccan't handle it due to low flow rate.

It is really sad Xeons are now all locked. If AMD naples is unlocked it'll steal a lot of intel business and maybe AMD can force intel to bring back unlocked xeons. I really like ECC and unlocked CPU for WS.

Really hoping Naples is unlocked because i would love to get a 16 core for my server in the future. See my sig. I need to update my sig. I changed some stuff up on it.

All your getting is 4.4 with a 1650?

I use to run a 1650 V3 I ran it at 4.65Ghz on a 240mm AIO.

What's best memory I could run? I'm looking at some DDR3 2933 CAS 12, could it even handle that?

I run ECC and prime stable at 4.4 but prime isn;t stable at 4.5. 4.5 24 hours stable with ROG though but crashes after 24 hours.

I run it as a serer so stability is important. Don't want errors and crashed on my Plex/NAS/WS/Server

i'll take advise. Haven;t played with OC in a long time. I have it at stock ATM to be safe for what i am currently working on.

There great CPU's and for stability I'd do the same thing.

I'm probably going to go for 4.5Ghz with the lowest possible voltage it will run stable at.

My biggest concern is I want to run really fast memory. So it can be competitive to Haswell E.

Would XMP profile even work running memory at 2666? Or 3000?

I didn't realize DDR3 was so good, it's actually comparable to DDR4.

CAS 12 DDR3 3,100mhz.

my DDR4 is one of the lowest latency you can get in my skyake build.

Haswells IMC is kinda crappy but its the same between E and Xeon.

Here's the build idea so far.

Intel Xeon E5-1680 V2
X79 UP5 Gigabyte C606 Motherboard
4x8GB DDR3 2,933MHz CAS 12
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti

Any info on getting Intel 750 SSD's working with X79?

there is a post somewhere with someone doing it with even older stuff IIRC

The E5-1680 V2 is still a force to be reckoned with...mine hit 4.5GHz@1.28V. I've decommissioned that system (and sold it to a friend) replacing it with a new Gamer system based on i7-6950X, Rampage Edition 10, 128GB Dominator Plats, Dual Titan XP, Sammy SM961 1TB, Intel P3700 2TB and dual Sammy PM1725 6.4TB AICs. I don't post specs in my sig anymore due to the draconian sig character limits.:(

what do you do with that that requires that much fast data? Don't get me wrong...if i could get all my data on SSDs/NVMe i would but obviously not rich hahahha

The P3700 does the booting, the SM961 is a Games drive and the PM1725s hold my iTunes stuff...;)
