The Intel cheerleaders at Anandtech have put up their preview of the revamped Core CPUs running at 2.33GHz and compare it with a Conroe at the same clock. All in all it seems there's an average of a 5% performance increase, clock for clock. Semi-good news for AMD? Only time will tell, of course. You can check it out here for yourself.

With your comment am I to assume you are a AMD cheerleader? :confused:

A 5% increase in performance with the same clock speed isn't too impressive. However, a 5% increase + power reduction IS impressive considering they are using current (i.e. not optimized) applications. That much power reduction means they have the leakage currents under control which strongly indicates that high clocks are possible (as their testing showed).

If you remember when Intel ruled the roost of the X86 space in the 80's and most of the 90's, and what they charged for even their low-end processors, you will then know why I'm rooting for AMD. Competition (even between two companies) breeds competition and innovation, and we consumers win with better products and lower prices.

It's not fanboy-ism, it's just not wanting to pay through the nose for something I shouldn't have to. Having to shell out hundreds for decent graphics cards are bad enough...
