Intel wireless cards

I am looking at buying a laptop and have a question regarding the wireless card. The one I am looking at has the stock Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N card. There are options for Intel Advanced-N and Ultimate-N cards. I will be living in a apartment, and wanted to know if these advanced cards would make any difference in speed.

IMO probably not.

In my experience the only real difference is that instead of having one (buggy) version of the drivers released by the OEM and then abandoned with no updates and no generic version readily available, you can use the generic ones from Intel which are updated regularly.

If you have the Ultimate-N card available as an option, can't hurt to get it. It's superior to the older 3945/4965/5100/5300 series cards, more efficient in operation (read: better battery life), and it's the latest and greatest. While Intel does continue to make drivers for the older series cards, they're getting fewer and farther between as the focus of development lies primarily on that latest and greatest once again.

If you're getting a brand new laptop, there's no reason not to splurge the few extra bucks and get a card that is "the best" you're optioned for.

I put a Intel 6200 in my AW M11x, and have never been happier with wireless performance

Picked it up for $30 shipped on ebay

I upgraded mine and sure it is faster for file transfers within my network. But remember it will not improve you internet connections speeds.

I used to have an Intel 2200 in my old laptop and it never had a problem

Thanks for the replies. the N6200 is a $20 upgrade and the N6300 is $35, so I might go with the N6200.
