I have not experienced a hard drive failure!
The point of this post is to determine whether or not I can trust Windows' built-in hard drive failure warnings should such an event occur, or whether I should leave that job up to Intel RST. I keep the RST tray icon around only for this purpose, but if I don't need it there I would like to hide it (not remove the app entirely).
I've had Windows (Vista) warn me about a hard drive failure once (it was accurate).
Do they both just read the HDD SMART, or does the Intel app have some "secret sauce" that Windows doesn't?
