Citing industry sources, DigiTimes is reporting that Intel will continue its low-price strategy to clear Pentium D inventory to make room for its Conroe and Kentsfield processors.

Intel plans to raise the proportion of its multi-core processor shipments to 80% in the third quarter 2007. While the proportion of its Presler-core Pentium D shipments will reduced by 75% at that time, Intel will have the Conroe-core Pentium E2000 series fill the gap, according to the sources.

Well, the old stuff has to go sooner or later, and I'd much rather see Conroe-based chips at the <$80 price point than Netburst or K8 chips. I think this is a good move overall by Intel: short-term loss, long term gain.
