Hey guys, I was just wondering if it is expected for Intel's Stock to skyrocket next week when conroe releases. If it is, I might just be buying a couple hundred shares.

Thanks

I've thought that for some time now. I think it was at its lowest earlier this month, but has climbed a tad here and there. If I were you, and had the money, I'd buy as much as I could and unload before 2007.

it's already imbedded in the stock price...

institutional investors brace themselves long before actual release events

I wish, but it will probably take some time before it goes that high. I'm guessing september time frame.

Basically, you are too late. Stocks don't change overnight with something like Conroe which has been anticipated for quite some time. Investors have known about the financial potential for a long time as well. If you didn't see a jump already, you more than likely won't see one next week.

Really? I mean, even if I pocket $300 its still all good. There will definitely be a jump in the stock though right?

There are definitely no definites in the stock market!!! Intel isn't considered a losing stock, but it's not going to be a big jump up at this time either imo.

Intel is about to release their Q2 earnings report at 4:00PM EST today. It is expected to be the worst quarter they have had in a long time by a number of analysts; well below the market norm. I would hold off buying stock until the stock bottoms out from this. Then you may see a rebound with the Conroe release.

... but as said before, the market price should already reflect the upcomming release of intels new chips.

I'd say that something that might be unforseen is the possible increase of sales for "lower end" intels that will be receiving a price cut. (Pentium D9xx in paticular) as well as the release of new D915, D945 as well as CELERON D 352 and D356.

But again, professional investors who are experts in the tech industry probably taken this into account already.

If you want to buy Intel, buy it because you think it's a solid company with short/mid/longterm growth potential.

I've been messing around on ScotTrade for some time, and I've made the most off of companies who's products and business I can understand. I invest in a company with a solid long term road map, good current products/services, and an efficient business model. Investing in what you think is a solid company with good growth potential is generally the best plan.

I've lost more on trying to catch short term trends than on anything else. I wouldn't bank on Intel making massive gains on the launch of Conroe. Their stock has already taken this into account for the most part; it has been rising since the NDA lifted a while ago. Further, while Intel will probably take a good chunk of the high-end with Core 2 Duo, AMD's price cuts are going to put a lot of strain on Intel in the low to mid range. The price war is bad for both companies and great for the consumer; Intel's stock will be held back by this.

I would at least wait until a few days after their Q2 earnings report, and probably AMD's price cuts on the 24th as well. If everything looked good and I were to buy, I would buy directly before the Conroe launch on the 27th. And only assuming you don't have to pay too much for the trade. If your broker will sell with a $7 or $10 flat fee I would be tempted. That's my take.

They just released the Q2 report, wasn't a real good quarter for them, and their third quarter outlook isn't too spectacular either. Just because they're getting ready to drop a great CPU doesn't mean they're going to boom.

That is true. The new chip's effect on Intel's bottom line will lag their introduction by quite a bit.

Sales slid 13 percent to $8 billion.
AMD's sales slid 9%. This is a seasonally down quarter and the price wars are taking a toll on both companies. However, I'm impressed by AMD's resilience here. Many people thought Intel's price cuts would hurt AMD more than Intel. So far the numbers show the opposite. I'm still not sure it was a wise move for Intel to start a price war with a smaller and more efficient company. The rest of the year sure is going to be an interesting one.

You also have to look at the overall for the company. 9% is a MUCH greater loss to AMD than 13% is to Intel. Not saying that it doesn't suck... just doesn't suck as much. :D

Yes, since last year about this time AMD was still in the red and Intel made 2.7 Billion LOL! Oh boo whoooo for Intel, they only made $880 million:(

Wanna bet on the 3rd?

I really believe that if you bought (as stated above) just before launch, and sold in Dec. you would make a decent amount of cash. Maybe even better if you could hold out til Q1 '07. I'm not a stock speciallist by any means. Just my opinion.

I feel sorry for those folks who listened to Mis Freeney saying AMD's stock would reach $45 LOL!

I dont know if this is true or not, but if it is, Intel stock looks much better!

Anandtech Forum, HopJokey: From the Q2 Earnings conference call of Intel, Paul Otenllini the CEO stated that the desktop and server version of their quad core part (Kentsfield for Desktop and Clovertown for Server) has been pulled from a Q1 2007 lanuch date to a Q4 2006 launch date.
