Well, I don't like to throw in the towel as a matter of course, but Lordy, I'm about to with this thing! I literally cannot get this thing to install. I know PCBs can take a bit of abuse, but I'm sitting here with 2 blown-out thumbs and am actually getting kinda pissed :p I seriously think I could warp/snap my board or CPU socket.

I can get 2 pins in, but not so much as one more. I've tried same side, I've tried a "star pattern" approach. Nada. I've squeezed as hard as I can ( even made a few pathetic grunts!).

Any tips?

The funny thing is this; I have no intention of using this hunk of crap. I'm only installing it for my initial desktop "POST" test, to make sure new mobo/CPU/RAM work before I commit to putting in in the case. I'll be putting my Swiftech Storm block on this. I'm to the point of considering buying an aftermarket HSF, but I really don't feel like removing the "Crazy Cool" backplate on my new GA-P35-DQ6 just to perform a 3 minute test. I could check the local Comp USA to see if they have one that doesn't require backplate removal. They are comically overpriced at Comp USA ( Zalman CPS-9700 for $90?... I suppose I could just return it)

Think I should just risk it and do the build, cross fingers and press the ON button?

I know this sounds like a /rant, and I suppose it is, but it is 0530 and my wife certainly doesn't understand. She would probably just wonder why I'm not in bed!

do this.

make sure all HS turn knobs are turned all the way clockwise. make sure all the black pins are pushed into the clear/white speaders (youll see what i mean on the bottom of each install pin.

i had a hell of a time until i relised my black pin on one of the install pins was not pushed in.

the stock HSfan is actually quite decent too!

yeah i had no problems w/ the stock hsf. just make sure all the holes are lined up.

i had issues the first time i installed one too.

like the second poster said, make sure all the pins are pushed in and the nobs are all turned open.
