Hello

what is required to use and boot from the new Intel SSD 310?
It is Mini-PCIe, so does it fit into a standard PCIe x1?
Is any new, fancy BIOS/Chipset required to boot from this SSD?

I use an 965P-DS3 Gigabyte (LGA775) for my NAS, so out-of-the-box compatibility of the SSD is crucial...

So is the sole advantage of the Intel 310 over the X25-V G2 that I do not need another SATA-port and just can plug it into a free PCIe x1? That would be pretty sweet....

No, it does not fit in a PCIe x1 slot. There might be an adapter available, but I doubt it. The 310 SSD is designed for laptop and netbooks and such that have mini-PCIe slots.

Intel 310 electrical pinout is mSATA, not mini-PCIe, so it will not work in standard slots (i.e. zotac motherboards).

Mechanically, it will fit a mini-pcie port, which is completely different from a pcie-1x slot.
