Has anyone RMAed a processor back to intel before? How long does it take and do they have any cross ship RMA service? My e4300 has a really badly made IHS that causes a 10+ deg C difference in the cores and i do not want to lap it myself.
 
I RMA'ed a concave E6300, and received a slightly less concave one back. The RMA process is relatively painfree. When you call them they will transfer you to an indian call center, just make it clear you know what you're doing and tell them your processor is overheating while using the stock cooler. Don't tell them you are using any other heatsink besides the stock one, or that you've removed the original TIM on the stock intel heatsink.

I've recently lapped that CPU and now it runs 45C idle with a zalman 9500. The lapping process took me an hour or so. It used to idle at 60C and now it's at 45C. Yes, you read correct - I experienced a 15C degree drop in temps just by lapping. I used the kit found at www.easypckits.com and I highly recommend them.

I'd really recommend lapping as you might just get another one back thats just as concave or worse. It's really a crapshoot. If you like the performance you're getting with your current CPU i'd suggest just lapping it. Sure you'll void your warranty but your Intel processor is well built (besides the crappy IHS) and will last you forever.
 
i rma'd a 6600 recently that would not run 64 bit operating systems. intel does not offer cross shipping. i requested rma monday morning, got rma #, shipped by usps priority mail on monday afternoon, and had a new retail e6600 on friday afternoon. so they are about as quick as its going to get. the turn around time was less than a day.
