It's an o/c champ, and quite cheap at 143 dollars. Those looking to get new boxen should seriously consider this...



for those too lazy, AT o/c'd their chip from 1.8ghz to 3.38ghz. That deserves:

Yes, you will not be able to run mage's vm box. But that doesn't stop you from making them dedicated folding boxes running full blown linux with the SMP client.
 
What is "VT" and why is it important?
 
VT is the name of intel's virtualization technology. VMWare leverages it and atleast with the most recent free release, you can't use it if you don't have vt on your intel processor. All of the Pentium D 9xx series have it as well as the Pentium 6x1 processors. All Core 2 Duos did have it until the release of the Allendale cores.

Yes, that's correct, I always forget about the 915-945 chips. The 955 and 965 extremes do have VT. I think I may have misspoke about the 6x1s as well, the Cedar Mill chips do have support on the architectural level but I think intel has it disabled. The 6x2 and 6x3 where supposed to have VT but I don't think they were ever released...
 
Makes me wish I had waited upgrading for a while.... :p Always something better around the bend, and this seems to be it. :D
 
OH HOLY HELL! I just got my E6700 to 3.1ghz...on that exact same board with a water cooler...now James is angry ;)

These little monkies may well be the kicker to get me into C2D land as well, though by the time I'm ready (april) the 4MB cache chips will be significantly cheaper.

Replace the OC'ed 915 in my sig with this chip, let this sweet board and ram finally stretch their FSB legs :D

Hell, could probly sell a 915 that clocks to 4ghz and cover MOST of the cost of this thing, while still getting a good PPD increase...was about to get an x1950pro, but this would be WAY more fun (something new to overclock) and use less power at the same time.

combine the E4300 with a GigaByte GA-965P-S3 ($110 and you can get the FSB to 500 but 400x9 is 3.6ghz) and you have a cheap bundle that will really O/C

Is that good??:confused: My 6400 runs at 3.32 on air running at 40°C with the CPU voltage at 1.28V

Same could be said for women, but in that case we can't thank/blame Intel cause......well, they are big enough pimps as is;)





 
When this chip drops under 140 I think I'm going to have to unload every single single core rig I have and load up on these. Now the question is will the cheap motherboards that use DDR and DDR2 have enough overclocking headroom? I heard there was a way to get the Asrock boards over a 300mhz FSB which would be 2.7ghz plus for this.......
 
Anyone who gets one of these CPUs, I would be very grateful if you would post actual power consumption (stock CPU and overclocked at several levels)...

I used to be of the "overclock the heck out of it" camp, but I've been working very hard to lower my electric bill as well...
 
Power usage on the 4000 series should be quite close to the 6000 series once overclocked.
