Alright guys... Let me start off with my current box which was built about 2-3 years ago.

- Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit primary OS
- Intel C2D E6420 2.13Ghz OCed to 2.66Ghz @ 333 x 8
- 6GB DDR2-5300 (2X 2GB / 2X1GB) Kingston/PNY
- Geforce GTX 275 896MB DDR3 (No OC)
- 2 X 320GB WD HDD (Vista and Windows 7 on seperate) + 1 X 120GB (Not hooked up)
- Soundblaster X-FI Extreme Gamer
- Thermaltake W0116RU 750W

Now Here is the build I am looking at. Really it is a rebuild as I am just planning on replacing the MB, CPU, and Memory

- Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz
- MSI P55-GD65 LGA 1156 (Dual Channel)
- Crucial 4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 -1333

How much of a performance increase could I expect? In total it comes to about $450 without tax and I plan on using the Windows Vista HDD by reformating and putting a fresh install of Windows 7 on it. Do you think I will have any activation problems with it? It is full retail version. I also plan on reusing the case, PSU, Graphics card, Sound Card, and Optical Drives.

Now for the questioner:

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
>> Mostly gaming.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
>> $450-$500 No shipping becouse I have a Microcenter near me that I will get parts from.
3) Where do you live?
>> Long Island, NY
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
>> CPU, Motherboard, and Ram
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
HDD, Case, PSU Thermaltake W0116RU 750W, Graphics Card, Sound Card, Optical Drives
6) Will you be overclocking?
>> Possibly minimal overclock
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
>> 22" 1680X1050 Hanns-G
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
>> Within 2 weeks or so
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
>> Dont really need SLI.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
>> Yes Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium

Your proposed parts look fine. I can't really give you a performance estimate, as many of today's games are largely GPU-driven (which you've decided not to upgrade at this time).

You won't have any activation issues with your retail copy of Windows 7.

I concur, looks solid. Also you can SLI those 275s on that mobo when you get the upgrade bug again.

No Windows will transfer. If something pops up contact Microsoft, they're actually pretty helpful when those things happen, from my experience.

SLi with GTX 275 isn't worth it with his current display size.

Either SSD or Better CPU (i5 750) would be his best picks.

It's true about the resolution of his display. But SLI 275s could be the difference between playing on high and very high settings for some games like Crysis. Yeah it's probably overkill to do that for one game, that's why i hinted it would make more sense to do it in the future

Thanks guys. The main game I will be playing most of the time will be BFBC2. I am currently in the beta. Right now the performance stinks but I know that is becouse it is a beta but I also know once it gets released I probably won't be able to reach the Ultra High settings that I want. I do plan on upgrading my video card when Nvidia releases their DX11 card specifically for BFBC2 since it does have DX11.
