First off this is hardly a sighting in the wild. Those are engineering samples and not for resale.

lets see some superpi and 3dmark benchmarks on it :)

With two 8800GTX's in SLI the D5400XS with two QX9775 processors the system scores almost 16,000 in 3D Mark 06. (No overclocking.) I never ran SuperPi on it.

That's with everything at stock speeds. Processors and video cards were left at their default clock speeds. The OS used was Vista x64. I'm not really sure why anyone cares. It isn't as if 3D Mark is an actual game or indicative of actual game performance.

I'm still not entirely certain where Intel is aiming this product. I wouldn't mind having one, but my reasons are foolish. For the price of these CPUs you could get a regular CPU and a top end phase change unit and smash them into little bits performance-wise. Those who DO get a D5400XS are unlikely to buy these CPUs, and will probably overclock a pair of cheaper ones.

The QX9775 processors are identical to the QX9770 processor that hasn't been released yet. Those are identical to the QX9650 except that they have a 1600MHz FSB and a 3.2GHz default clock speed. On air they are typically only good to about 4.0GHz. After that they get too hot and become unstable. With water cooling or an extreme cooling method I'm sure they can go much higher.
 
Most of 9770 ES with C0 stepping still have problem with heat.

C1 stepping should be better.
 
The QX9775 processors are identical to the QX9770 processor that hasn't been released yet. Those are identical to the QX9650 except that they have a 1600MHz FSB and a 3.2GHz default clock speed. On air they are typically only good to about 4.0GHz. After that they get too hot and become unstable. With water cooling or an extreme cooling method I'm sure they can go much higher.

I think thats a bit more the platform (design) and its level of maturity more than it is, the chips can't hack it. I goto xtreme systems I see QX9650s hitting 4.4ghz on air regular, I think their was one guy who was doing 4.7 pretty stable. But yeah, heats an issue when you have 1 CPU producing heat which then gets channeled onto the 2nd processor via hot air blowing on its heatsink. which in turn makes both of them not being able to run at full capability, kind of hard to design that out of a Multi processor platform.

What is odd however is that intel rates the TDP of the QX9770 as 138w, and the QX9775 as 150w, despite the fact that these chips are identical despite the pin packaging.

It is believed that skulltrail supports all DP LGA771 xeons, although I have seen no evidence of this, this board (which apparently isn't called "skulltrail" w/o the QX9775s) mite become an option to more enthusiasts than at first glance, since the cheapest DP 45nm xeon is around 300 I believe, more palatable than 1500.

In all the documentation I could find (most of which is confidential and pre-release), the D5400XS only has Xeon 54xx and 52xx processors listed as supported. On the newer documentation on the website it only shows the QX9775 as compatible with the D5400XS motherboard.

I do believe the QX9775's can be overclocked a bit higher than I've reached in the past. As I said, I could get them to post and operate at 4.4GHz but the thermal management built into the board would kick in (no way to disable it with current BIOS versions) and bring the chips back down to 4.0GHz or less. So while the system will POST at 4.4GHz and is stable, the chips never actually got to run at 4.4GHz for me.
