We just got this at work (TEST PROC) and put it in a system with...

680i BOARD
650W BFG Tech PSU
7900 GTx
2 GB PC-6700
STOCK COOLING

Thing zooms but it feels like a qx6700 OC'ed haha basically its an Extreme (6800) Quadcore ;) clocked at 2.96 Stock I believe, we didnt push it yet. Does anyone have any release dates?? Will it be released end of april?
 
I am waiting for this processor. Please tell me the release date is coming very soon... I will be the happiest man on earth :D
 
I am getting one of the quad cores once the price comes down. I can't wait to fold on that!!
 
is it worth the wait? cant i just buy a qx6700 and OC it to over 2.93 :-\ I want my proc now
 
I was about to by an E6600 this week, then I quickly landed back on earth :p For the price, I'm gettin the Q6600 probably. Same price for 2 more cores? CAN'T WAIT! :D
 
I got some info:

Stores mentioned it would be released on the 4th this month and some are as far off as May 15th, so nonetheless, we should see it in less than a month. I'm excited to be honest.

It's a 2.93ghz quad core. Box number is:

dude. and a q6600 wont be the same price as an e6600 is now until q3/4....

yeah. once i get quad core (im after a q6600) in q4 i doubt ill upgrade for a while. no need until apps start using quads and it starts to look tired!
 
qx6800? I didn't know they were releasing quadcore 6800. anyone have a link with more info I can check out.
 
Well rumour has it in December QX6700 is going to be down in the $300 mark..

So whoever goes out and buys "top of the line" is kind of rediculous. Due to the fact you can get something that will overclock just as well and, what are you going to be using the cpu for anyways.

A bit overkill if you ask me. expecially if you going to go out and buy (45nm 12mb cache)

I just got a great idea (I think). Get an E6420 now (oc like a beast with 4mb L2) and then when quadcore drops in prices in december, upgrade time :) . I shouldn't loose that much cash when I sell the E6420 because when it comes out, it will retail for about $180. IMHO, this is probably the best plan if you want price/peformance.

If you haven't noticed all of the new Conroes overclock horribly compared to the older weeks. Still think the old E6600's are the best bet for money, even if they cost you $300 instead of $220. But still a good idea.
 
There is no such thing as "Overkill". My PC is about 1% of how fast I want it to be. And when it is 100 times faster, I’ll want it 100 times faster again.

Anyhow, There is no doubt this is a gimmick. Something to introduce prior to 45nm and the stock speed benches on this thing will be off the charts throwing a lil more sand in AMD's face. It's a gimmick like the E6700 vs. the E6600. $200.00 basically for a different multiplier.

On the extreme edition Quads, both chips will be unlocked up and down. My guess, for what its worth, is that the QX6700 will slowly roll out of existence and likely not drop in price much. Wait for 1400.00 prices when this thing hits the shelves. When the QX6700's are gone, the 6800 will drop back to reality. If there are too many 6700's in distribution you will end up with the two chips costing the same 1000.00 or so.

This is all conjecture on my part after watching EE chips over the years.
 
It's 10:50am today, called all the stores even mentioning the quad core, nothing in stock yet. I'm going to say thats a big fat no for todays release :(

Q6600 won't be $266 until sometime in Q3, if you can wait that long, the Q6600 will be $530 on April 22nd, so same price as the E6700 is now.

Yeah unfortunately the QX6800 is being introduced at $1199, so there will be 2 XE SKU now like AMD had with the FX-55 and FX-57 not too long ago.

Even if you got to 3.2GHZ that would be a respectable overclock, the E6600 will be falling to $224 soon, so I dunno, overclocking has never been a guaranteed thing and it's always been luck of the draw and a bonus only.

well thats what brings down the prices, people who buys the top of the line stuff and right when they come out helps bring down the price! Plus they probibaly have some money lying around.
 
Prices will always drop, it's a fact of life. The question is do you want to jump on the bandwagon now and enjoy months upon months of a speed deamon or do you want to save some change and wait till the end of the year? If you chose to wait, you could always wait an additional less-than-a-year for the next cheaper version to come out... you'd never stop waiting.


To me the premuim on the QX6800 is worth it, I have an enjoyable processor for months to come before it drops in price even.

it's $1200 MSRP and will probably sell for more than that for the first few months
there is absolutely no reason to buy this over a QX6700 when they all have unlocked multipliers

Thank you for reading the thread and responding to my post after they have announced the price ;)

There is a reason to buy this over the qx6700, and that is the fact that it's not much more and you have a later processor that runs faster without being overclocked.

The Q6600 looks very tempting with that 500 price next week.

I called all those places, no one has it in stock. I would pay $1,350 if I can actually find them :(
 
intel should discontinue qx6700 and change to q6700 once a newer one comes out. ruins the prestige of the 6800 a little

I would not be suprised if they did that. Perhaps they are keeping the $1,199 price untill they sell out of qx6700 stock and then drop it down to the current q6600 price as a q6700
 
I guess these are delayed, no stores are showing it in stock, some even removed the item and others called it "discontinued"
