Here is an article I found that rates all the quads, including the new i7, in performance and price. It also includes the Duo E8600. I believe this is a must look if you are looking to buy a new processor.
 
Interesting read. Somewhat valuable, wish it had the common OC's benchmarked in with that.
 
Does the site have a navigation link anywhere or is it necesary to next through every single page in the article to see what's in it?
 
I think this test has a MAJOR problem, they use Vista for OS, then use 2GB for C2 system and 3GB for i7 system, which is not ENOUGH to tell the real story about these CPUs.

Same thing i was thinking.

I got a Q9550 coming and hopefully i get some decent clocks out of it as my trusty e5200

Problem is that the i7 platform works best with triple channel ram, therefore it runs best with 2 sticks of ram, the core2duo/quad is usually on the ddr2 platform and runs best with two paired sticks, so i7 3 or 6 memory sticks, ddr2 platform is 2 - 4 sticks. Another alternative was to handicap both systems by only using a 1 4gb stick on each. Also for a good 64 bit platform vista 64 has more support than xp64. They could have used xp32 bit since they didn't exceeded the 3.5gb limit. They should have dome some test with 6 and 12gb ram, see how well they handle it.
