The fan on my stock heatsink from Intel only spins around 1026 rpm which seems really low to me. I am having problems keeping my processor cool, it idles around 50C and at load with Prime95 its gets up to 70C with the fan staying at the same speed this is with the case completely open. I 've reseated and reapplied thermal paste 3 times, once using the stock thermal pad the other using silver paste although it is a generic paste, the lowest temps i got were with the original thermal pad.

I do plan on getting an aftermarket HSF but for the time being I'd like to get my temps reasonable. I've checked the bios on my intel DG33TL mobo and all i find about the fans are an aggressive setting or normal setting which doesn't tell me too much and doesn't seem to have an effect.

oh wow disregard my sig its so old lol.

i just upgraded from b3 to G0, and saw a huge improvement in temps.

i had the same problem with my b3. i was idling at ~45-50 and under load it would go to 65-70. but i also had it overclocked a little also

i never could get the b3 to cool down below 45ish, and i use a zalman aftermarket hsf. i finally decided to upgrade to a G0

which stepping do you have?

sorry I forgot to mention it is G0 so the temps are definatley on the high side for that.

So a little update, I went ahead and got an arctic cooler freezer 7 pro. My temps now idle around upper 30's and peak around 67-68 in prime 95. Im not planning on OCing yet. So im pretty comfortable with these temps.

The thing is though, the fan speed stays around 800rpms and never ramps up as needed, I think my peak temps could be even lower if it would do what it's supposed too. So now my Intel stock HSfan and the freezer don't ramp up the rpm's as needed so I figure its the motherboard. I've tried the only 2 bios settings on the DG33TL that control the fan speed but they have no effect not sure whats up with the board. Any one know if any other software works that can do this on vista (the fan wont show up on speedfan)?

wait a second... i was told, by arctic cooling themselves, that the freezer 7 pro will NOT work with / fit on my Intel DG33TL ... WOodoo288, did you have issues installing this HSF?

I really didnt have a problem installing it, it has plenty of clearance around the cpu so it wont come into contact with anything else on the board, so far I haven't had any problems fits nice and snug. I dont really like the DG33TL this board is too basic and too small it keeps alot of heat around the cpu so my temps aren't really where they should be, But the freezer 7 does its job the best it can.
