Intel push-pins (RANT!)

Actually, I'm not so much afraid of breaking the motherboard as I am of putting way too much pressure on the chip while trying to make everything it. Or is that an unwarranted worry?

Also, that while I'm shoving things around something slips and I break a capacitor.

i've done numerous 775 systems and i never have a problem with the push pins. get one corner in, then get that opposite corner, then hold it in and do the other 2. you shouldn't have any problems.

I push in two corners at once. Then the opposite two corners, then I pull on the thing and make sure its' all the way in. I also look between the CPU and the heat sink to ensure proper contact.

I wouldn't worry about the chip. Breaking something on the motherboard is a far more likely scenario.
 
Just for posterity, I recently installed a KWI-9225 (I think) HS/F and the pushpins went it SMOOTH as butter, (yes full contact and they are securely in). It was 900000x different then the retail HS/F for intel.

Funny this thread should revive. I'm building a server and need a good reliable cooler that can cool a quad core and is solidly built. What's a good one that bolts through the motherboard?
