Intel Price Cuts & Virtualization Technology, A Need For It?

Well, like alot of bargain hunters, I'm anxiously awaiting to get my hand on a Intel Pentium-D CPU on the cheap. Been looking around all morning and the price cuts just don't seem to be there yet.

Also, after reading this over at xbitslabs.com, "The Pentium D 945 CPU will work at 3.4GHz and will not support Virtualization technology. It will become the fastest Pentium D model, although it will sell cheaper than the youngest Core 2 Duo processor.", I'm leaning towards the 945, which has the same specs as the Pentium D 950 but does not have VT. The cost of the 945 is supposed to be about $60 - $70 cheaper than the Pentium D 950. And I thought, why spend the extra money on something I'm probably never going to use? But maybe I'm overlooking the advantages of VT?

I'm planning on using my PC for playing some games, downloading music, watching movies, entertainment, etc. Can some of you weigh-in on the need for VT? Would like to hear comments both for and against.
 
I might be wrong that VT is for enterprises not personal use. Unless you are hosting a website with huge database!
 
VT is good for servers and running desktop OSs in virtual machines. It's not a requirement for either one though, VT only helps performance so far. 1-2 years from now it might have many more uses.

I upgrade pretty often so I don't care if I have a CPU with or without VT. When it becomes more useful I would buy a CPU with it if I didn't already have it. The D 915/945 do look pretty attractive for the price.

I run Windows inside in Linux when I can't use Wine. So I'm very excited to try out this technology.

My vote is a yes.
 
So then if I'm just running one OS, (either XP or Vista when it's finally released for retail) I don't need VT, correct? i.e., it's not a requirement to run Vista?
