Can someone give me the link I keep searching and getting old Intel price cut lists.
 
All conroe cores will be reduced by 60% while all conroe supported motherboards will increase 60% :)

Actually, I am very interested as well... It's been a while since I owned an Intel system.

It's like Matt Serra saying, I brought the belt back to Long Island.

Q6600 is such a bang for the buck, almost makes me want to go that route instead.
 
Is the 6320 for sure a conroe. Seems odd they made the 6300 allendale

I'm in the same boat as you - Trying to deceide between the e6600 and the 6000. To me they seem pretty equal benchmark wise. But if you deciede to overclock, the e6600 has a much higher ceiling, and it takes less juice to power it. That being said, I'm leaning towards the e6600.

The biggest issue with me is the cost of the motherboards... they seem to be a lot higher on the Intel side for a decent one... :-(
 
Alot of that stuff seems old though the E10x0 Series doesn't exist anymore and the E6200 and E4200 won't ever come into being.
 
The Q6600 isnt really gonna hit 266 is it? That would be insane. I was gonna wait till the E's dropped down, but if I can get a quad core for that cheap......
 
E6600 would be best to buy now when price drop hits if your really hurting for a chipset.

if not wait till Q3 and get the Q6600 :)
 
I'm definitely going to be buying in Q2, so I can't decide whether to go with the E6320 or the E4300. Only a $50 difference for twice the cache, but then I've gotta go with the more expensive RAM as well. And at that price, it's almost worth jumping to $224 for the E6600. I think I'll wait to see OC and benchmark capabilities of the 6320 so I can better compare them. Early results show that the E4400 and the E6320 aren't much different, and with the overclocking capabilities of the 4300, that may be my best option if I can truly get it for $113 next week.

I have the money but still just find it dumb to spend that much money knowing your gonna only need it for games.
I never overclocked a computer before and you people that are going the 4300 route and overclocking it to 3ghz looks mighty smart to me and I think im gonna read up on doing the same thing. I just wanna be able to play some games but not spend a arm and leg.
Where can i research on water cooling? And is it expensive?
also is the new 4400 better to overclock then the 4300?

Hell yeah I spend that much on a CPU to play games. Play games, run apps, bench, video edit-you name it. $300 for the most important part of any system too expensive? Not for those who make this a hobby or want to get a lot of bang for their buck. There is always a sweetspot with performance/price ratio and for that $300 is not terrible. I remember paying a lot more then that for a Pentum 3 450 when that first came out almost 10 years ago. Also its the games that will tax your system more then anything so the better the CPU mhz, the better GPU the better framerates you can get, the higher resolution you can run, the more features you can enable at high quality. This is a hobby and its why people have been coming to this forum since it opened.

Till today the 6600 held the postion at the top of the price/performance ratio in many peoples opinion. Post price cut the 6700 will hold that position and the Q6600 starts to look more attractive as well if your not planning on updating for a long time.

Yeah, I have to agree, it's like spending "mucho denaro" on a top of the line bowling ball, golf club or whatever "turns your crank" in your hobby. My hobby is computers so a $300 USD cpu "ain't about nothin" dude or dudett (female dude) no offense intended :cool:

I spend 1000 dollers on all my paintball equipment and it will last me long time.
Same as my mountain bike.

Hell consoles last more then 2 years.

I dunno the fast turn around time is what keeps it exciting, there is always new stuff around the corner.

Hell if someone bought the X2 3800+ at 300US or whatever and it's now down to 80 ish, that ain't so bad. The value doesn't hold because stuff gets obsolete very quickly. But it means the pace of development is rapid.

I don't know old you are but I have been hearing that computer games would be dead since the early 1980s and they are still here. There has always been something that was to kill off gaming on the PC and it still hasn't happened. Keep in mind when a console gets released it stays locked in technologiclly for 6-7 years till the next version comes out. In that time period PC's become more powerful then can even be compared on paper to consoles. For instance I have an Xbox and an Xbox 360. The 360 is great and looks comparable to the PC in 1080p gaming on my 53inch Plasma. The Xbox though when I got it also looked as good as the PC but over time the PC games looked better and better till there was not even any way to compare the two. The same will happen to the 360 which will still be the same in 2 years, but by then my system will have gone through 1-2 major upgrades. So I don't think Console gaming will kill off PC gaming- They can exist together just fine imo.

I don't think its a stupid question ( I wanna know too)

I would think that a quad would really call for more bandwidth. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the chip actually has 2 dies on it, whereas all the 1333 processors have a single die.

So that means that the computer I actively use (and occasionally game with) should have been thrown out 2.5 times by now? I still actively use pc'a that are pushing 10 years old as servers. Running the latest and greatest software still (2003 server). Last i checked nintendo wasn't still making games for the n64, which would have been current gen at that point. And was eluded to before, pc gaming gets called dead every few years. And still the only console I've ever owned was a gameboy (the original).

also, if computers are a cost ineffective hobby, good god, what are cars? If they're going to loose $5,000 in value the first year and a substantial portion of the population buys or leases a new one every 3 years, why get a car at all? I bought a bicycle when I was 16 and it still works fine!</sarcasm> :D

I also totally upgrading my 5 year old 2100+ based system to an e6600. I almost bought a system two weeks ago until I learned of the impending price drop on the e6600, which is the processor I was going to purchase anyways (mmmm, 4mb L2), so it's gravy.
 
Well actually im 24 and Im sorry but hearing something like consoles are gonna take over in the 80's is pretty damn stupid and wonder if you heard it in the playgrounds.

As long as the computer had its access to internet for online gaming consoles would never touch the consoles. When N64 came out it was actually the first time a console had better graphics and performance then a pc. It came out when quake 1 came out and N64 had gl graphics when quake 1 took another year or so to get that patch.

Now that we have internet on consoles and HDTV its very easy for consoles to beat computers. You really dont need to go over 1080p in res becuase your sitting 10 feet away from your tv and really you wont see the difference. IT all matters on power now and how many polys you can pull on screen. The next gen consoles are gonna totally blow our minds. And at its 500 doller price range its gonna make computer gaming look stupid.

Sure we have poeple like you that game for a hobbie which i do also but getting at a age that i wanna spend my money on other things other then sitting inside :)

The only thing computers right now have is the power of modification. Console games you buy one like every 3 months. A PC game can last you 4 years with all the mod and patches and stuff that comes out. This is something consoles have to use but the thing is its on computers the mods will be made.
So you might say consoles might be more expensive becuase your spending 80 dollers total on each game when pc they last you so long.
 
Anyone know if the coming price cuts will also affect the Xeons? Specifically the 5300 series quad cores? I'm running dual 5150's right now and am considering upgrading to dual quads (5355's) but if they are going to drop in price a bunch I might wait a few more weeks.
