What is the major enhancement done in Intel 2 Core DUO over Intel Pentium D 915, since both are Dual core, both support 64-Bit processing, Desable Execute Bit and both have 2*2MB Cache.

What is the major difference that distinct both the processors??

conroe is unified 4mb cache. allendale is 2mb unified cache. As in each core has access to the entire set of cache. From what i understand the pipelines are shortened to core 2 and it has SSE4. I think the 64-bit processing is improved from the pentium D series. There's also the 1066 fsb compared to (i think) 800fsb of the normal preslers (excluding EE).

OK. So in Dual Core each processor has got its own BUS speed or both share common BUS speed?

Where did you get those nick names from (conroe, allendale etc)?

I think the "HUGE" difference here is that the Pentium "D" series is based on the NETBURST core, and the C2D is based on the new "CORE" design.

QFT

You need about double the speed on Pentium D (and a lot more heat) just to be close to Core2. And in some tasks even double the Mhz doesn't even catch Core2.

I had a 4Ghz Pentium D (920 overclocked), now I have a 2.75Ghz Core 2.(e6600 overclocked) The Core2 is about 10-33% faster in most things.... depending on the benchmark / application. And in some rare occasions like SuperPi its almost 100% faster. AND that is with the Pentium D having a 50% faster clock speed than the Core2.

3dMarks comparison:

My Pentium D system
3DMark 2001 score = 32,137
3DMark 2003 score = 23,884
3DMark 2005 score = 10,316
3DMark 2006 score = 5,339

My Core2 system, eveything the same, just new mobo & CPU:
3DMark 2001 score = 45,727
3DMark 2003 score = 26,403
3DMark 2005 score = 11,872
3DMark 2006 score = 6,600
