Looking for opinions on a new Intel rig I'm building for a friend next month. $1000 - 1100 budget. There will be no overclocking.

$315 3.4ghz Pentium D 950 (expected cost after April price cuts)
$120 Intel D945PSNLK Motherboard
$155 2GB DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) - CORSAIR ValueSelect
$310 GeForce 7900GT - PNY
$100 250GB Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar SE16
$100 Antec Sonata II w/ 450w power supply

=$1100

Thoughts, comments on the motherboard?
7900gt > 7800gt ?

Everything is fine. the 945P chipset is good and the intel board should be stable. I'd change motherboards anyway becuase that 950 is gonna be asking to be overclocked. But it's all your choice. It's good as is right now.

I'd get a motherboard based on either a i955 or i975 chipset, and one that has good overclocking.

The only thing I would change is that motherboard. Get yourself the Intel 975 "Bad Axe".
Its feature rich, stable, plus it has more overclocking options than previous Intel boards.

yea, like the other guy said, go 965 (when they come out) or, if the 965 isn't out yet, go 975 bad axe

Broadwater AKA the 965 chipset will be out some time in the second quarter of this year. Broadwater will have Conroe support right out of the box, and if I'm not mistaken the 965 chipset will also be to support Kentsfield too.

If you don't plan to overclock, will you consider getting a Dell?

I'm thinking of upgrading myself. If I don't overclock, I will probably get a Dell since the price is so low when they have a special deal.
