Hey all,

I'm currently working on a water cooling build and am wondering, why is it easier to find parts and info for an x58 over a p55 board?

I have both boards and am almost considering using the x58 becuase of this. is the x58 a better OC system? or is it because it was the first i7 series out?

I have always favored the p55 and thought they had a better OC experience.

Is there something im missing??

I work for Intel and was always told/understood the p55 was a step up from the x58...

P55 is the platform for the "mainstream" variant of Nehalem, and is a tier down from X58.
You might be looking for LGA 1155, which is Sandy Bridge and uses the Z68 or P67 chipsets.

x58 is a high end platform, p55 is a low end platform. So p55 has lower power consumption but x58 has more ram channels, more PCIe and towards the end of it's life more cores.

Also x58 had an unusually long life because of Intel's switch from "high end first" with nahelm to "mainstream first" with sandy.

Finally IIRC microcenter were selling the bottom i7-9xx model (which model that was varied over time) for ridiculously low prices which probablly swayed a lot of enthusiasts.
