Hello All!

I'm looking to upgrade my current system and I'm looking at an Intel P55 chipset based motherboard. I'm thinking of getting an SSD drive to boot from (where the OS will live) and setting up a RAID 5 array via the built in stuff for media streaming etc. Is this possible? I seem to remember from way back when it was an either or kind of thing with the Intel storage stuff, either you booted from RAID or you didn't and there wasn't any other options. To sum it up, can I:

Boot from an SSD drive
and
Have a RAID array via the Intel Chipset
at the same time

Thanks!

Yes you can do both with the p55 chipset.. Also many P55 mobos have an additional sata controller as well, so you could do 2 SSD's in a raid 0 on one controller and have 5-6 drives in a raid 5 on the intel controller...

I can't vouch for any real fancy configurations but, the P7P55D-LE mobo (really low end btw) has two controllers on-board (Intel ICH10R and JMicron) and, I've got 2x 320GB drives in RAID0 for the OS/apps/etc and 2x 1TB drives non-RAID on the same Intel controller.

I seem to recall issues with "mixing" drives on the same controller on some older boards but, the newer stuff seems peachy.
