Intel or AMd system .. i cant decide

well ive been waiting to upgrade for a long time .. and im finally gonna do it in the next week or 2 ..

here is basically what i do on my pc ..

surf the web .. burn dvds .. etc ..
game .. main games right now are HL2 .. D3 ..
i do alot of unraring .. etc ..

now i currently have a p4 .. used to have an amd before that .. i was either gonna get an asus sli board with a 3500+ and 6800 u or dual 6800 gts ..

or getting an AAXE non fatality .. 1 gig ddr .. 6800 u or x800xt pe ..and a 3.4F

what do u guys think
 
If your doing any kind of gaming what so ever it's not even a choice AMD all the way. If your a huge Media freak then Intel.
 
well i do game alot .. but i also do alot of things like unraring .. burning ... i dont really encode .. etc
 
Yes, AMD all the way for the raw performance... You won't regret it a bit :)
 
Burning it won't make a difference. I have no clue which is better for rar... but uncompressing is generally fast anyway. It seems most of the time disks make more difference than CPU, and the only key thing here is to have 2+ drives set up as independant volumes. I like to use one drive as the source drive for the compressed archive and one as the target for the uncompressed files.
As for games, well, you've already heard that.
Personally I'd probably go with a P4 in a single proc system, but that's just because I'm a duallie nut, dual core isn't out yet, and HT is the next best thing. Or maybe get the cheapest 939 A64 available, and plan on switching to dual core later. That's sort of academic though, since I'm quite happy w/ my rig for now.
In your case, I'd get that SLI board w/ one 6800U. Add the other one later after prices drop a bit. I was reading a review recently, and SLI support isn't all that good yet apparently.
 
I would go with AMD. The only downside to AMD right now is that they don't offer the multi-tasking capabilities a Pentium 4 with HyperThreading does.
