Intel onboard Nic running odd

Hello, so this is my first intel Nic I've had on a motherboard I've had realtek for the last while and it's always flowed awesome. But now with my new Z87 UD4H board my internet speed feels clogged when I'm downloading. For instance when I'm downloading a game off steam when using my old realtek my web surfing was barely if at all interrupted. But with the intel it feels like I'm surfing with a 56k connection. Now with the intel there are additional settings in the internet connection properties is there anything that can fix this? I find this quite ironic as most people rant and rave how awesome Intel nics are but I would take my realtek anyday over this.

Does anyone know of a good guide on settings for these things?

Stock settings are fine, I'd have a look at cabling and possibly the switch or nic on the other side.
