Intel New Chipsets O/C LOCKED???

doesn't sound like all hope is lost.

I don't really care because it doesn't look like Intel will be support EM64T very much for consumer processors anytime soon (maybe a couple of speed grades of Prescott, but that's all for a while). :( I'll probably go with an Athlon 64 not too long from now.
 
This just gives me a reason NOT to upgrade to the new stuff. Do you think anyone up there at Intel realizes they are shooting themselves in the foot?

I must say, as a person with 5 Intel computers, that they sure are making it a big hassle to upgrade to their next level - prescott/PCI-Ex/DDR2/lga775/BTX all at once for only a 3-5% boost for basically a room warmer. AMD would seem to be the more sensible solution now, I must admit. While AMD has dropped the ball several times previously, it appears they are much better situated this time to gain market share.

Just IMHO.
 
Just be glad they haven't put o/c limits inside the cpu. They already have the ciruits to throttle with high temperatures, would be really easy to make that based on host clock too.
 
I agree with switching to AMD. If intel locks the clocks, then AMD will make a HUGE gain in the enthusiast market.

I thought of switching to AMD this past upgrade...but went Intel b/c I've always had good luck and never any stability problems. Next time will be different though.

besides, the those Intel chipsets will likely have SIS and VIA counterparts that DON'T do something stupid like that.
