Hey guys, im looking to replace a screwed up Asus P4P800 in the near future...can I ask what the big difference is between 865 chipsets and 875 chipsets? and also, is ABIT the brand to go with? or is there something better?

The 875 chipset has PAT (performance acceleration technology), which boosts performance a few percent (< 5%).

Abit is a good brand, Asus is still slightly better in my opinion (though I use an Abit IC7-G).

if you were to buy a new one now you'd go with asus though? Cuz lately I've had problem after problem with my Asus boards...

Well, considering I just bought the IC7-G a month ago, I wouldn't be buying a new mobo anytime soon.

I'm just saying Asus is slightly better sometimes because some people have been having stability problems or just problems in general with the Abit. Or course, it's bound to happen.

I'd say Abit or Asus. It's really your personal preference. But I'm really happy with my Abit.

I would avoid Asus boards at least for another few weeks because they shipped a batch of motherboards with bad caps. You cannot really go wrong with Abits, so I would get an IC7 series board.

Capacitors on the motherboard. They hold electrical charges. If they're faulty, they can lead to instability and other problems.

I have run both the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe and an IC7-G ...both ran/run great ...but stuck with my IC7-G due to better raid performance

Personally Abit's quality leaves something to be desired. I have had numerous problems with Abit boards over the last several years. As far as Asus quality I have never had any problems with them.

The P4P800 is a damn good board. It's not quite as nice as the 875 based P4C800 Deluxe which is what I use. I chose the 875 version due to the increased amount SATA ports and PAT was worth it to me.

If your having problems with your Asus board it may not be your board but other things in your system. I had problems with some cheap ram on mine, but after changing memory modules I had no further issues at all.
