Intel May Plan On Leaving Entry-Level Chipset Market

Really sucks. Their chipsets were my main reason for me sticking with them :(

Should make the chipset market an interesting place over the next year.

So this means that the chipsets like the 915/945 wont be created anymore by Intel, and other developers would put there chips in place of them right? The chipsets like the 925/955 will still be devolope by Intel and not phased out right?

If this is what I think it means, damn this really sucks. There chipsets were top of the line.

says their phasing out entry level and names two aging chipsets, couple of you are reacting like their leaving the chipset creation all together, if you think that, you either didnt read the article, or didnt read it correctly. Intel and Intel branded motherboards are going no-where. Just a select few maybe.

Same thing I was thinking.

915 and 945 are not just one chipset, there are cheap entry level versions of both. Look near the bottom of the "DigiTimes" page for a hint?

"Intel to add 945 chipset for mainstream segment (Jun 9)"
"Chipset shortage and falling prices to push Intel 915 platform to mainstream"

Both 925 and 955X are seen as High-end, not mid range or mainstreame.

Ah thank you for clearing that up.
