Intel Matrix Storage Manager and AHCI

Just a quick question regarding Intel's Matrix software...

I'm running 3 single SATAII drives @ AHCI on an ICH9R controller. Intel states that I should install their Matrix software when using AHCI but the actual driver inside is older than the one you get in their chipset driver pack.

Should I just go with the newest driver and dodge the Matrix software?

Newer is probably better, I would just go with the newer version.
 
I'm just not sure if leaving out the manager will have an effect on NCQ
 
Can you install the pack with the older driver and manager and then install the chipset pack over the top of the older driver?
 
No as soon as the matrix driver is installed it´ll stay there even though the chipset driver is installed
