I am troubleshooting the weird errors on my ICH10R RAID 0 array of 4 Seagate 500 GB drives (ST3500320NS).

When I display the drives, two of them show a "Current Serial ATA Transfer Mode" of "Generation 2." That is 3.0Gb/s right?

Yet two of the other drives show "Generation 1." 1.5Gb/s, right? So what gives?

There are no limiting jumpers installed to keep it to the 1.5Gb/s limitation.

Any ideas?

any possibility that the "Generation 1" (1.5Gb/s) drives are plugged into ports designated by the bios to not operate in "native mode"? I'd look at that first. Sometimes the first few ports operate in "legacy" (IDE) mode...

Thanks for the information. Turns out with the length (2 Meter) of SAS Multilanex4 cable I was using, I needed to set the drives (via the jumpers on the back) to Generation 1, 1.5Gb/s rates. Now they all show the same as Generation 1 and the system is working perfectly.
