I am in the process of reinstalling Windows 7 on my new Lenovo laptop and was curious to know if the Intel Martix Storage Manager is necessary in a single drive configuration. I see that this software mainly benefits RAID situations but I was also reading that it is used for some AHCI functionality (which my internal SATA or eSATA drive may use). Would any of you recommend installing this software in my situation?

I wouldn't bother with only one drive, it won't tell you if that drive goes bad, cause it won't get the chance lol

I wasn't concerned so much regarding it reporting a failed drive as I was if the program has any added benefit performance wise with a single drive. I think I may leave the program off for now (since it was not there to begin with)....and to lower my startup times by a second or two.

It doesn't add any performance to RAID disks either, it monitors them
