I am planning to built a new computer in the next month or so and have been looking over all the information on intels new sandy bridge based processors. I am stuck between whether to spend extra on the cpu, say getting the i7 branded 2600K over the i5 - 2500K, or getting a mid range graphics card of around the same price as i would spend extra on the cpu and mobo.

I know that the main consideration is whether the computer is used for gaming or not and all i can say on that is I have an xbox for gaming and a pc for working so the main demand on the graphics is video decoding and photo editing. Another consideration I have been thinking about is the fact I intend to use the corsair h70 to cool the cpu and building it in a micro atx case, so would there be any cooling advantages of not having a hot graphics card in the mix too.

Thankyou in advance for any advise on this matter.

I have heard if you OC the 2600k you cant use its integrated Intel GMA at the same time so you would need some sort of GPU.

The P67 chipset, which supports overclocking, has no connectors from the IGP to video outputs.

The H67 chipset, which doesn't (officially) support overclocking, does have those video connections to the IGP.

The Z68 chipset, coming in Q2, supports both.

It seems I have confused things abit with the example i gave, I have no interest in overclocking this computer it just needs to be reliable and quite quick, after watching that video it seems a better example would be the standard i5-2500 and i7-2600 bot the unlocked K ones.
