So I am contemplating upgrading to an i7 rig. I have a swiftech watercool kit and will be upgrading to a 1366 slot water block. I love to overclock and have my current Q6600 running at 3.4GHz and am looking to overclock my new i7 rig.

My question is which chip is better for overclocking? the 930 or the 950? When I purchased my Q6600 it was better for overclocking than the Q6750 so was just wondering if the same is still holding true and wanted to get some input on which chip would be the best for the money as the two are only about $10 in price.

I have seen some pretty high overclocks with the 950. 4.4GHz and even higher. IMO, I would go with the 950.

Can you get to a Micro Center? You can get an i7 930 for $199 and the 950 for $230. I guess I am lucky to live within 100miles of one

930 is the way to go.most x58 MB's can do 220 bclk and thats enough for 4.5GHz
with a 930 and from what i have seen most 950's are very bad OCer's.
i still think the best bet is a used 920.even the newer ones are better than most 930's

950s are good but often have to lower their multipliers anyway...so either would work honestly.
At microcenter the price difference is small enough that future resale probably would probably turn a minor profit ;)

If you don't live near a microcenter, maybe a kind soul on here would be able to pick one up and ship it to ya. I did that once for a friend on another forum, it was a Q9550 though.
Sadly the microcenter near me isn't really THAT near me but I was never there before and thought it would be closer.

My i7 950 reached 4.0GHZ with a marginal increase in voltage.
Go for the 950!
