Intel i7 1155 socket CPU install question

Hi all, this is my first post on the forums. I just want to say hello before I get to my issue.

I am putting together a computer for the first time in 15 years, and BOY have things changed. The new LGA1155 socket is a scary little bugger. After getting the chip to rest in its little notch, I pressed on the lever and heard a scraping noise that made my heart stop. I lifted the chip out to inspect the pins and they seemed to be resting at a weird angle. I could not for the life of me remember if they were like that before i dropped the chip in. I fear that I ruined my new Sabertooth P67 MB. I looked for pictures of the socket and its hard to tell, but it looks like it may be OK. Can anyone advise me, or let me know if they had the same issue with installation?

The retention bracked does take a lot of force to close, to the extent that it scared the hell out of me when I assembled my first LGA775 system. But just to be sure: you did align the corner of the CPU with the yellow triangle, with the corner of the socket with the embossed triangle, right? You needed no force at all to let the CPU lay flat on the pins, right? If so, you're fine.
 
Yeah, I lined up the notches and the little arrow was in the correct position (bottom left I think). I searched around some other sites and it looks like I'm good to go. I saw a few pics of damaged sockets, and mine looks fine compared to those.

so you got pics or what?!?! :D anyways. The pins are ment to be bent like that. I done a custom build today at work and a while ago and noticed the pins are different :)
 
Amd maks a better system, as far as socket pressures etc...

However they are balance....

AMD you bend the chip pins
Intel you bend the mobo pins
 
Yeah, that noise freaked me out first time I heard it too.. Kinda sounded like running your finger down a brush.

Yeah, all the pins should be bent on an angle.. Of course, if the pins do not look uniform then there might be issues!
