How much life do i have left in this chip? ive had it for 2 years now and it is no slouch, but i was wondering if the jump to haswell is gonna be worth it?

You won't need an upgrade. The general-purpose performance increases (IB + Haswell combined) is estimated to be 15%-20%. You do get AVX2, but that's worthless unless your app/game makes use of it.

Hell, there are still apps that don't make use of the AVX that shipped with your Sandy Bridge! No need to make a fuss over AVX2 quite yet :D

difference in gaming will be about 5%, don't waste your money.

Only you can determine how much "life" is left in the chip. For someone like my parents, it will have enough "life" for probably the next 10 years.

As far as the 5% figure above, that sound like a over generalized, made up statistic to me considering there are already processors out that exceed that figure in several games.

You also can OC to 4.5-4.8 with good air cooling and MB, so still lots of life left.

For the Intel® Core™ i5-2500K you should expect to upgrade on a 3 year cycle in most cases. This of course is based on not overclocking. With overclocking you can get another year or two without pressing your system. So at least another year maybe two before you really might get some value out of upgrading.
