my new gateway laptop for school has the integrated graphics in the title of the thread. Online, reviews mentions its max of 64 mb video memory which defaults around 32 according to the reviews. Nowhere in these articles could i find any hints to turn the memory up to 64 mb. anyone know how to do this for those of you that have this chip? This would not bother me if the control panel for the graphics chip didn't say that it was only allocating 7 mb to video. i am wondering if i need an updated control panel of what. Any suggestions?

get a new laptop with some thing better

no realy try the BIOS

but i would not get a laptop like that look for some thing with a 9600m at lest

Is this laptop going to be strictly for school? If not, and you are going to game on, do not get Intel graphics. It sucks really bad. I have it in my computer, and it plays older games just fine, newer games run like crap. Thank god, I had an PCI - Express slot in my mobo :D

Why would you want slow, crappy graphics taking up another 32MB of system memory?

It helps in some games, if you have adequate system ram. I know, because my laptop has Intel extreme 2 also. ;)

specs of laptop. 1.7 ghz intel mobile processor with centrino technology. 802.11b/g wireless
1024 mb ddr sdram (512 x 2)
said graphics.
40 gb hdd
dvd-rom/cd-rw

the amount of ram in this thing suprised me so i think that it would be okay for the graphics to suck up some of the system memory

It happens automatically if the game needs as much as 64MB: http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/eg2/

If you want to verify that it is working correctly, check out this page: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel852gm/sb/CS-009069.htm?iid=graphics+852main&
thanks for links, just what i was looking for

and, yeah, the adapter tab in the graphics properties shows the correct 64mb max graphics memory allocation. in windows, the graphics memory is 7mb i guess. hmmm, i am going to try to check it while running a game.
