Looking forward to seeing what this thing can do. =)

Got it installed but it's kinda late to start messin around with OC'ing. Save that for tomorrow after work.

lol even wikipedia's 'List of Core 2 Processors' doesn't have this guy listed.
How many of those were produced anyway?

I would guess there's less than a dozen out there in circulation. The guy in Hong Kong I bought it from on eBay had 6, and has sold them all. But in the tech community, only 3 other users afaik. "Fearlessleader", "rockit00", and some other guy named MICHAEL that did a CPU-Z validation.

If you Google search "E8700 site:valid.canardpc.com", only 3 results are listed. Fearlessleader has 2. rockit00 didn't validate his, and Google's spiders havent found mine yet as I just validated last night.

The combination of L2 and (hopefully) insane clockspeeds of these chips make for some interesting performance comparisons. Good luck and looking forward to your results.

Woot, there it is! Same batch as mine! I saw another E8700 get sold by that seller about 30 minutes ago and he still has one listed. That makes Me, You, and adadk who just posted his validation over at OCN. Good Luck with that Puppy. :D Update: A couple of 8700's are headed to the XS forums also.

Sorry about that! Well the club is still growing. It looks like the XS forums has about 5 E8700's ordered. With names like The Nemesis and TheKarmakazi, I get the feeling we'll see some Extreme OC's in the very near future! :D

Silverghost, I wonder how many there are. I was watching for a seller since Jan 2009. Rumors Rumors, April fools Jokes, and thats about all. I was surfing eBay for QX9650's the first of October 2009. I don't want to go there, but while searching, I decided to search the sellers other items. I found, "Intel E8700 OEM" with one other bidder. I had just decommissioned (broke down) my second machine, IP35, and sold my E8500. When I saw E8700 for under $200. USD, I just went for it. The other bidder couldn't find Official Intel Specs for the E8700, so he thought it was a scam. The other bidder stopped bidding at $199.99 USD. I had just enough $ to bid and win at a little over $200.00!!! Fearlessleader got his chip by mistake because he won a pair of QX9650's and the beginner seller shipped him the E8700 by mistake. Great Seller and very honest, but new to eBay, and made a simple mistake! Today the E8700 set a new hwbot record at 5250MHz on air (one of our brazilian friends) and the other handful of E8700's (5 or 6) are in Belgium, Germany, Toronto and Heaven knows where else! I now wonder how many were made??? Fearlessleaders was a Q829A and the rest have been Q831A's. Intel Confidential, one, two , a dozen. World Wide release, EOL, Who Knows.

I would hope that thing could get 4.6-4.7 GHz without much trouble. I could get 4.2GHz without much trouble on my E8400.

Pffft, I put my E8500 at 3.8ghz easily, no way i'd spend that amount on a CPU as the last of its line. I could go higher, but my RAM isn't specced for it and I don't wanna raise the vcore either so I leave it as is.

Yeah, you and hundreds of others have put theirs at that speed too. 3.8 is easy for anyone with an E84/85/8600...you aren't special you know, even if your mommy told you so.

5250mhz on air? Sick!

You'll kill that chip shortly running 1.6 volts. I hope this was just a validation run and not something 24/7.
