Intel DX58SO Power Issue

Hello,

I just received an Intel DX58SO board, and an i7 940 CPU.
Also I have a rather small case, with a Chieftec 500s8 PSU.
The problem is that this PSU does not have an 8pin CPU power connector.

Tried starting this machine with only the 4pin cpu connector and it did not start, not even for a fraction of a second.
Then tried connecting the two additional connectors (the board has a molex and a sata power connectors) with no luck either.
The PSU is ok, i managed to short green+black wires and it started.

What can be the problem here?
This cpu needs an 8 pin connector else it will not start?
Should it start with a 4pin connector too but only for like half a second a then turn off due lack of power?
Is there a problem with the motherboard itself (since there is nothing happening when 'powering' on)?

Forgot to mention, when i connect the 24pin to the motherboard, i get a green LED lit up near said connector and the PSU makes a strange, barely audible and constant, buzz like sound.

Thx.

Intel's boards are finicky as far as power connections are concerned. That particular board needs an 8-pin EPS+12V connector or else the board will not work.
