Hey all,

Im going to be upgrading my PC (currently a AMD XP64 3000, 1gig OCZ Duel Channel 3200, GeForce 6800 128meg, etc) and I've been eyeing Intels line of Duel Core.

Now I see that the C2D's are the beasts on the block at the moment, but I was wondering how the Duel Core 9xx series stacks up. On Ebay I can get these on the cheap (like 1/2 - 1/3 of the C2D chips).

I really love to game on my PC and am trying to get the most out of my hard earned dollars. I was just wondering how, as of now, the Pentium D 9xx series is. I know that they arent the uber powerhouse of the C2D, but cash flow is a concern, so upgrading I had to take it all into account.

Thanks all

Here's a review that addresses your question pretty well:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2duo-e6300_11.html

While the E6300 is clearly better than the 3.4GHz P-D 945 in everything at stock, the gaming performance of the E6300 is so superior that it beats an overclocked 4.2GHz P-D in 3 out of 4 game benchmarks at stock.

And that's before you get to the 60%+ overclocking headroom of the E6300.

Someone on these boards says that anyone who buys AMD in the face of the C2D is a fan boy. I say anyone who buys a Netburst CPU in the face of C2D is an idiot :D

Dool core :D

It's a bit late here in Nova Scotia, especially when typing fast and getting a 2 year old ready for bed.

And I'll probably get a Drool Core Duo after seeing a lot of the reviews. Be stupid not too I guess :)

Does ram throttle it back alot if I get slower than the 800mhz?

If you want to save some money and can wait another month, the true allendale c2d's will be hitting shelves.

How much cheaper they getting? The e6300 is already $181
