Hi,

My CPU just died yesterday. I dont have the money to buy another cpu right now. I was wondering how can i get my data from my HD on to another computer. Can i use the same HD alone on a new comp that just been built. I want to be able to get my data from my HD and burn it on a disc so i wont lose my files that i need. Please any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
 
Just put it in as a slave to the other hd and get all the files off you won't have any trouble done it before .you can access your files from your primary drive no problem.

Thank you pcerdguy for your help. but i was also wondering would it matter that i have windows xp on both hd operating at the same time? i just wanted to make sure so it doesnt cause any problems on my pc.

With Windows XP, you will hit a little bit of a snag if you wish to recover from the user's folders as they are password protected. There will not doubt be a way around this. If it is not too much trouble, put it as master in the other computer.
 
Only if he selected to make his personal folders private when he password protected the account. Even then, on the recovery box (as long as it's XP Pro) he can disable simple file sharing, highlight the folders, and change their security permissions to allow a user account that is a local administrator access to the files. If the folders are private and you get an access denied error message, post again and I'll show you how to do it.
 
I have done this several times putting the hd with xp from other computer into new computer using it as slave since xp usually doesn't like different systems from the installed one.if the same chipset just set as master boot it should be not much problem if a different chipset put in as slave copy files to master or cd and done.
