Hello
I have a Sony Vaio notebook and when I'm sometimes when i'm using it I noticed it becomes very hot. I decided to download CPU HWmonitor to monitor the temp
The Intel Core Duo T2300E temps are usally around the mid to high 50's but when I use it intensly for long periods of time it can spike to 75 or 77C:eek:.
The HDD is usually 42C the highest is 46C.

How are these temps normal for this type of PC.:confused:

Laptops use small heatsinks and low speed fans that might even be designed to turn off when idle. High temperatures are pretty normal. Different manufacturers use different cooling solutions so it's hard to make a fair comparison between two different laptops unless you have them side by side at the same speed running the same software in the same environment. That doesn't happen very often and even if it did, the core temperature sensors on Intel CPUs are not 100% accurate at idle or full load so comparisons become pretty meaningless.

I'm not sure if Core Duo CPUs use the same kinds of sensors as Core 2 CPUs do, but if that is the case, you can download Real Temp or Core Temp and look at the distance to Tjmax values. If the distance to Tjmax is less than 10, you're getting into hot territory.
 
Note that the Tjmax of a lot of desktop 45nm core2 chips is 100C and that should be similar for notebooks.

BTW, the CoreTemp application should tell you this.

That is totally fine for an Intel core2 processor.
 
65nm Core 2 CPUs like your T2300E don't start to slow down until about 97C. No worries. Important body parts will start to hurt before you hit this temperature so let that be your guide. :)
 
97 and 100°C golly gee willikers! :eek: that’s hot. well my CPU must be OK then.
My Sony still seems physically hot to the touch, much hotter than all other notbooks I have ever seen, maybe it's just this model ???
