intel, casual gamer, quick answer please

i read around the net about intel and the HT tech., and i read that the AMD 64 939 can compete with them on the basis of multitasking.. As inm having more thatn one webpage open, or mroe thatn one program open. is this true.

im looking to build a system and wanna get a processor that suits the person in the sense that they do play games, not hardcore but they play em. and use it for browsing,emails, what not

You will be fine with either one. HT is slightly better when multitasking.

also what about the L1 cache the p4E's only have 12+16kb and the amd64 have 64+64

the two architectures use the L1 cache in completely different ways. Netburst doesn't even have a traditional L1 cache...it had trace cache, where the decoder dumps the decoded X86 instrutions before they enter the pipe. All in all, you can't compare those at all. Nor can you compare L2 cache sizes, since the latency to that cache as well as the pipeline depths are also very different.

The AMD would be the better deal there, not only about $40 cheaper, but the socket 478 is showing it's age since it's a last generation socket. Also the AMD motherboards tend to be cheaper too.

Are you kidding me, you insane little AMD funboy? EVERY new intel board has PCI-E on it, and theres plenty in stock.
