Problem:EventViewer Event ID:51
"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation."
>>Whatching the blue bar on bootup, it sometimes hesitates for 2-3 sec, then I know
the problem has occured. At the moment I am booted up 100% without the problem.
>>I noticed on Internet a lot of users has this problem.
>>>This only happens during BOOT, near the end of it, blue bar...

##########
This has to do with speed: Disk mode=UDMA-5
#########
Details:p4 3.06Ghz,MB=GA-8IEXP Rev2.1, Chipset=845E, M=Twimoss 768MB.
##########

History-1:I never had this problem, till I upgraded from P4 2Ghz to P4 3.06Ghz with HT.
The MB supports HT. With HT disabled, the problem is gone. I managed to get rid of problem while on SP1 and upgrading the Intel Application Accelerator to 2.3....
Never saw it again...

History-2: Untill I upgraded to SP2 from CD. In the mean time I have proved it has to do with the IAA from Intel & Hypertreading.
1-If I disable HT, it never happens.
-or-
2-If I uninstal Intel IAA, with HT enabled, it never happens.

>>>But doing the above slows the PC noticibly down....

I have 2x diff makes of disks, Maxtor 40GB & WD 40GB, happens with both. They are not brand new, but the WD is 3.5 years, and max is 1.5 year.

Question-1:Does anybody know more about this problem ?
>>This has to do with speed to the disk, via IDE/controller
Question-2:Do you think buying a brand new disk with 8MB cache could solve this problem.

Have you tried new ide cable ? and different ide slot on your mobo cause that is what sounds like it's releated to also make sure you have the newest chipset drivers for your motherboard installed

I assume this is not comming off a fresh format?

A new hdd with an 8mb cache may be noticeably faster, but I think your problem is software related. I'd try a fresh format w/ latest drivers and SP2 if you havent. That would be the cleanest route i think.

Good luck!

:D Problem Solved :D

I made a decission: I dished Intel Application Accelerator!

The influence of IAA: I proved the following:

To make the PC work,....

1-Disable HT, but then P4 runs 10c with cooling hotter...

2-Uninstall IAA.

3-Disable IDE2....If IDE2 is disabled, it also works 100%[Without CDROM & DVD]

After uninstalling literaly every possible thing from Device Manager and re-installing, I decided removing IAA was the best option. It clearly has a problem with IDE, effecting boot progress & prevent stuff from loading properly. If it hesitates on boot, I know the fault is on, after which the PC feels sluggish.

After uninstalling IAA this time, XP re-installed a newer version[2003] of chipset drivers, unlike previously[2001], so uninstalling the HAL etc, may have made the diff.
It boots right/smooth & feels right now.

Note:I have looked at my work PC[Dell], and there is no IAA installed either.

:D
After 100's of reboots, I still did not reformat, and all is still in tact. I must say I gained some serious respect for XP-PRO/SP2.

Is IAA still popular? I wasn't aware it was still a must-have thing. I stopped using it a while back because it would make my 128MB video card only show 64MB. I have no idea why it did that, but I realized I didn't miss IAA.

My real chipset drivers are with XP, but when I go to Gigabyte website, the IAA, is the only chipset drivers they presented to me, that was how I got onto it a few years back.

Maybe the chipset drivers should be doing what this Job from Intel promised to do.

On newer PC's you must load .INF files 1st[With some chipsets], that is suppose to make installation correctly configured for the MB, in my case this is not applicable.

:(
:(
According to Maxtor, this type of error message is not caused by the disk, but they don't say either by what.....
I have swopped the new rounded Coolermaster IDE cables I used[1x year old].

I now, don't think a new disk, will solve the problem, cause, if I disable IDE-2, the problem is also gone....I think it is Software/Speed related[HT + Faster Processor]
