So I recently upgraded my gpu from an 8800gt to a 5850 and feeling like I could squeeze more performance from my system with an upgrade to the i5 platform.

Currently I'm running:
e6750 @ 3.2GHz w/ Hyper TX2
Corsair DDR2 667mhz @ 800mhz
P5K-E Wifi

I think I'm settled on the:
ASUS P7P55D Pro
Intel i5 750 @ 2.66
Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 1800 (KHX1800C8D3K2)

What is a good cooler in order for me to overclock this processor? I'm only looking to spend $20-$35 on an aftermarket cooler.

Will everything jive together well? I'd hate to experience any incompatibilities or system instability because of my hardware choices. Are there better choices than the options I've listed?

What can I expect to sell my current cpu/mobo/ram/hsf for? In order to upgrade I must part with my old hardware to reduce the cost of the upgrade.

First of all, I would suggest DDR3 1600 instead of spending money on an 1800MHz kit. 1600 is enough for a 4GHz overclock (which isn't guaranteed anyway) and is considered the sweet spot for DDR3. Furthermore, the Kingston kit you selected requires 1.7v and you should not exceed 1.65v on the P55 platform. I suggest this 4GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 kit.

As far as the cooling, are you planning to overclock? If not, then the stock fan will be just fine. If you do plan on overclocking by more than 30%, perhaps something along the lines of this Thermaltake Silent Cooler would suffice.

Good tip about the ram :)

Ya I'll probably be overclocking. If I could go any higher with my current setup I would. With the right ram I believe I could reach 3.4ghz but my memory is holding me back.

Firstly, the H50 can be had for 42.99 shipped AR. I was merely thinking you might be able to flex your budget a bit, but it seems you are unwilling to be flexible on this, so my eternal apologies to you for wronging you in such a manner.

I guess its safe to assume that he was very firm with his budget.

Unfortunately Canadian's aren't part of the cheap hardware club you folks down in the US are a part of :(

Cheapest I've found in Canada is $79.99 + 12% = $89.59 :( I also don't consider rebates, because my initial out of pocket expense is the same regardless.

My budget is a little flexible but I don't know if my case will support it (Antec P180) and I've had good luck with my Hyper TX2 that for my needs a heatpipe cooler will do the trick.

Have any other suggestions for air-cooled heatsinks that involve minimal flexing of my budget? :)

You didn't wrong me but I try to keep on subject. As much as like to entertain ideas like this at this point it's pure wishful thinking.

Curious where you found that price. Pricewatch only shows a lowest price of $59.99USD from Besy Buy.

Hyper 212 from Newegg for $29.99 fits your budget. No persdonal experience with it but it is the popular and very effective tower type heatpipe cooler and I daresay it works pretty well.
Xigmatek S1283 or its variations (RS1283, Dark Knight, S1284EE) work well but it's already stretching budget and will probably require additional mounting kit for i5 (overpriced on Newegg try Amazon but shipping still makes them pricey).
Last, if you've got a Microcenter nearby and you're lucky (as in still in stock at your location) they've still got the Noctua NH12P for $30 something (will need i5 bracket but Noctua will ship you one for free) - great price on a very good cooler.
Those come to mind offhand - others may have more to add to this...

*scratch the microcenter suggestion - I dont think they have stores in Canada... Freakin Canadians :D

I have a P182 (same as a p180 if it's got the rubber grommets in the back of the case for water cooling), and a Thermalright TRUE fits in it. Don't know what the H50 is, but if it's bigger than the TRUE, then it's too big....the TRUE is already ridiculously large.

I'd definitely consider the hyper 212 - I just migrated from an E8400 to a 750 and my idle temps are in the mid-high 20's C. For the price, it's a great cooler.

How's the ram treating you? I was looking at the G.Skill ECO ram myself. Actually you build is very similar to the one I want. I was looking at the Gigabyte board as well but it's difficult because I'm used Asus boards all my builds. Notice a big jump in performance from a high end C2D?

I second the hyper 212, I got it from restockit for $25 (after coupon found on google). It uses 12" fan tho, so it's big, barely fits inside my Antec P150 case. Installation is easy and fan change is a breeze.

Well as of last night I successfully completed ~12hours of OCCT on my new system which entails:

i5 750 @ 3.8ghz
4GB G.Skill Eco Ram running @ 7-8-7-24 1600mhz
Asus ATi 5850
Coolermaster Hyper 212
Gigabyte P55A-UD4P

I also got 22,115 on 3dmark06 but I have no idea on if it's a good score for my system.
