Hi all,
Quick question, are all intel cpus 32 bit? Im curious becuase im gonna purchase a new computer and gonna ge windows vista too. I know AMD is 64 bit and well this will be first time moving over to Intel for me because you cant beat those dual cores. Im just wondering if the dual core is considered a 32 bit or 64 bit?
Isnt it alot better have 64 bit? and if so why doesnt Intel use it?

My understanding is that Pentium D, Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are all 64 bit processors. Pentium M, Pentium 4 and so on are not.

All Intel CPUs except Core Duo are 64bit.

*That is Core Duo , not Core 2 Duo.

64 bit is faster in applications that run in 64bit, but finding drivers for 64bit systems is a pain, hard to find, and could not yet be available for all your hardware

It's not that bad these days.
Video cards, soundcards and motherboards are well-supported by now. Only 'special' hardware might be a problem...

Pentium 4 600 series and some older "F" stepping CPUs are EM64T enabled. Additionally all Pentium D, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Extreme, and Core 2 Quad CPUs are all EM64T capable.

Oh nice! thanks alot. And i am buying a core 2 duo. So its reccomended i should buy the 64 bit version of windows vista? Or is it safer with the 32bit version?

The Celeron D 3x1/3x6/3x2/3x7 and Pentium 4 5x1/5x6 also have EM64T.

The early S478 EM64T "F" CPUs had CPUIDs with 5x1 model numbers, before the 5xx designation was announced.
