Recently swapped out my 3.2gig (@ 3.8gig) 540j for a 3gig 630, as i've been reading that alot of peaple were hitting 4 gig easy with the 6xx series.

But at the moment i'm having trouble o/c it over 3.85gig. Can post ok upto 4gig, but anything above 3.85 windows won't load... either freezes before the login screen, get a BSOD or BIOS CHECKSUM error.

(Rig details in my profile) Current bios settings are:

FSB= 256 (cpu = 3.84, with memory on a 3/4 divider = 664mhz)
CPU V = 1.46
DDR2 V = 1.9
N/B V = 1.6
PCIE =100
PCI= 33

Ran 2 instances of Prime 95 overnight successfully, cpu temp idles at 37-39c,tops out at 58c.

I tried increasing cpu v to 1.51, DDR2 V to 1.95, N/B V to 1.65, but it made no difference, after 3.85gig windows won't load.

To check it wasn't memory holding me back I changed the divider to 1:1. At 257 fsb memory = 504mhz - cpu = 3.85, all ok. At 258+ fsb, windows won't load.

Is there anything else i can try, or have i just reached the max speed of the cpu?

Hate to ressurect dead threads but I am havign the exact same issue and wanted to know if you resolved this or if anyone now can help out. I have the exact same timings, voltages etc except my PCIE is currently set to 118 as this seems to work on my P5LD2-VM

I am at 4ghz with mine but when i reboot my computer shuts off then comes back on. Settings are all the same though. IT does not give me the "press f1 overclocked failed" screen. So I guess If I can get primestable it will be considered a good overclock. But my load temps hit as high as 66C :\
