Intel 330 SSD cosmetic damage? Is this normal?

I ordered an Intel 330 180GB SSD from TigerDirect, package just arrived, and this is what I found. This was in an undamaged, factory-sealed retail box. A quick search on google and some youtube unboxing videos shows similar, but not quite as bad, "damage" on other Intel SSDs. Would you keep this, or try to RMA it?

I would RMA, tbh. But if it's a common occurrence, you'll have a high chance of receiving one with the same affliction.

Mine looks like that, the metal on the bottom isn't a finished surface.

It's normal, mine looks like that too, if they have shots in reviews they look like that too.

Perfectly normal... it's a metal component that's not been polished to be all flashy and that's what it looks like

You knew Intel was cutting corners somewhere with the prices on those 330s. It's fugly, but who is going to really see it?

I just got the Intel 520 series SSD and it was the same way so i'm guessing it is normal. Actually helps put my mind at ease as well.

Yeah, this is how they have looked going back to the X-25's. It is not meant to look like a lapped, shiny finish.

well bought a new 120gb myself, and i was like wah?
never mind the cast metal look (though really? why does it have so many scratches and dents on it?)
i was put off by the scratches on the connectors.
i can see that op also has scratches on his ssd connectors.
maybe intel plugs each ssd a couple of times and tests it before they send it off.
or maybe intel just refurbs a load of these ssds ^^::

Dude somebody wiped their nose on your SSD. Oh wait it's an Intel? Don't worry they are all like that lol.

Actually, the picture makes it look worse than it really is. The SATA power and data connectors are barely scuffed. Regardless, I've already tested the drive, and everything seems OK. This is my first SSD, so like you, I was put off by the "refurb" look. Only other issue is the SMART power-on hours being reported as 800k (91 years!!), but apparently that's common.

Now I'm just waiting for my Arc Midi ($50, sweet deal) to be delivered.

yeah, mine too. my connectors have three or four lines on each little connector - definite signs of use.
its got to be testing or refurb. those lines do not appear otherwise.
ive never had a brand new sd card or ssd come with such scratches on the connectors.

on a side note, im using mine, and it works great ^^

My 330 looks just as bad but performs decently enough. Thought I was the only one. Expected more from intel though as their 520s look neat...
